History

Southern Temple :

Some historian claimed that a Southern Shaolin Temple was destroyed in Henan province. The styles of South Shaolin lineage have always been esteemed for their focus on simple effective movements and short range blows with devastating powers. In reality there was actually not one but three South Shaolin Temple were all located in different areas of Fujian province. The oldest was the Putian Temple in 557 AD, the Quan-Zhau Temple in 9th century AD, the third Shaolin Temple was in Fu Qing during the Song dynasty 960-1279 AD.
According to some South Shaolin Temple offered protection to many rebels, officers of the Ming who enrolled in the Temple as lay students after being defeated by Qing. It is not surprising that so many of the best known styles of traditional Wushu practiced today have their origins from South Shaolin Temple.
